I do believe that it is important to be forthright, but to communicate the message with compassion. The intention is to help and not to hurt. When you want to help people, you tell them the truth. You just help yourself when you tell them what they want to hear.
I am not politically biased, rather truth and evidenced based. But I do strongly support freedom of speech, probably why I was vocal in the debates around Covid vaccines because freedom of speech of those challenging was suppressed.
So, my forthright opinion on woke. Great if your messaging is the same behind closed doors, a positive contributor, and not disingenuous. Great if your messaging is reconciliatory and not dividing. The greatest leadership attributes of Nelson Mandela (in my opinion) is that he was inspiring and reconciling. I am confident that he would have supported “ALL LIVES MATTER” because he understood reconciliation.
Growing up in Apartheid South Africa, I have a big heart for systems and laws that provide for equal rights irrespective of race or sex. I also comprehend now that equity and equality are very different. Based on evidence, the equity approach adopted in South Africa, readdressing the inequalities of the past, has failed miserably.
I have travelled extensively to the USA where I think the term “WOKE” originated. There I have never seen any evidence of a law or a system that favours any race or sex above another, but I did witness the suppression of freedom of speech in such discussions. I had and still have questions on the implementation of equality. It will take great leadership to implement proper behaviour.
Mankind needs a shift back to correct principles and values (integrity), and courageousness. Individuals with high self-worth and high intrinsic value, and to be less influenced by the social mirror. Persons that give the real score. That have the courage to say NO when NO is appropriate.
