Numerous teachers and sports coaches say their no.1 obstacle has become parent interference. Parents threaten in the presence of their children, creating an outcome where their children do not respect their teachers. Children are being conditioned to “run” to their parents to solve their disputes.
Teachers and coaches believe a concoction of new money and “small minds” manifest in a need to interfere and show themselves, despite having no competence in the respective areas.
A stark contrast to say my upbringing. I recall when I was 4 years old, running to my father to tell on an incident. He refused to listen unless I came with the other boy saying “every story has 2 sides to it”. Or when I was dropped off at boarding school aged 10 and my father saying “always own up and never run to me with issues”.
Respect and integrity were instilled in us in the school environment. And off course at home.
My reflections are not about judging, rather trying to understand the behavioural shift in generations. And a chance to say thanks to my parents for the examples they set for me.
